Long Covid Rehabilitation Service – Bradford District and Craven

Long Covid Rehabilitation Service – Bradford District and Craven

Description:

A dedicated service set up in Bradford District and Craven, to specifically treat patients who are suffering with Long Covid symptoms, like fatigue, brain fog, and heart palpitations, following Covid-19 infection.

The long covid clinical team run a range of different online therapy groups that will help you manage your symptoms. You can work through as many therapy groups as you feel you need (one at a time).

Alongside the online therapy groups run by clinicians, you will also set aside dedicated time each week for ‘homework’ and practising the strategies you learn. These self-directed activities are a crucial part of your recovery. They help you build skills, put techniques into practice in your daily life, and make steady progress between sessions. This approach reflects the principles in our Patient Charter, where patients are active partners in their rehabilitation journey and supported to take ownership of their health and recovery.

We also run clinics for those who need face-to-face support. The service has dedicated translators across over 85 different languages, including Punjabi, Urdu, Polish and Bengali.

How to access the service:
You can be referred by your GP, or if you are aged 18 or over and registered with a GP in Bradford District and Craven, we are rolling out self-referrals. If you are registered with a participating practice, you can refer yourself without needing a GP appointment. The roll out of the self-referral service is being phased across GP practices, so not all practices will be involved at the same time.

There’s no charge for this service; it’s part of the NHS and completely free to access.

What you can expect

This service is built on the principle of supported self-management. That means you are not a passive recipient of care; you are an active partner in your rehabilitation journey.

Supported self-management means we provide you with the tools, knowledge, and support you need to take control of your own health. You learn to:

  • Understand your condition and symptoms
  • Make informed decisions about your care
  • Build skills to manage your symptoms day to day
  • Set realistic goals and track your progress

While you will attend group sessions and appointments as part of the service, much of the work needed for your recovery will take place outside of these sessions, in your daily life. This might include exercises, pacing your activities, and applying strategies you learn in the sessions. Without this ongoing effort outside appointments, improvements may be much slower or may not happen at all.

Research shows that people who actively manage their own health tend to recover faster, feel more confident, and maintain improvements for longer. By working together as a team, you lead your recovery while we guide and support you every step of the way.
